Welcome to Temporary Housing!

Temporary housing began on Sunday, August 20, 2006 with the arrival of our first-year student class!  The purpose of this e-newsletter is to keep temporary housing residents, hosts, and their parents up-to-date on the status of our efforts to relocate all temporary housing residents to permanent accommodations.   A new update will be sent out each Wednesday until all temporary residents are moved.  If you have any questions, if you do not wish to continue receiving these updates, or if you know someone who would like to receive these updates, please simply reply to this e-mail.

Special Requests

Please let Lisa Dippold (ldippold@andrew.cmu.edu) know if you have any special requests regarding your relocation to a permanent location.  Although these requests are not guaranteed, we will do our best to accommodate you.   An example of a special request would be Donner residents requesting to remain tripled.  All residents involved must be ok with the request before it will be processed. If you have any questions about this, just ask Lisa.

Need boxes for storage or moving?

Let us know! We can provide boxes for temporary housing residents and their hosts to use as storage boxes or for moving purposes.

If you are interested in obtaining some additional boxes, please stop by the Housing and Dining Services office at 1060 Morewood Ave (Morewood E-tower) during out business hours (8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.).  Let the front desk staff know how many boxes you need and be sure to mention that you are a temporary housing resident or host.

E-LSCR's

Temporary housing residents should wait until they move to their permanent assignment to fill out their Electronic Living Space Condition Report (e-LSCR).  We will have a Facility Coordinator check the area after you move from your temporary space to protect you and the host residents from inappropriate billing.

Recap of Temporary Housing Resident and Host Meetings

Thank you to all who attended the temporary housing host and resident's meetings held on August 20, 2006.  Below is a recap of the main points discussed at the meeting.

- 49 residents and 60 hosts are associated with temporary housing. These students are residing in two different types of accommodations: lounges converted into quints in Morewood Gardens E-tower, and doubles and triples converted to triples and quads in Donner House.

- Housing and Dining Services plan to have all temporary residents moved to their permanent accommodations no later than October 1, 2006.

- Housing spaces for temporary housing residents are created by first-year students deciding to go to school elsewhere, upper-class students cancelling their contracts, students associating with Greek housing, etc.

- Housing and Dining will assist temporary housing residents with the move to their permanent assignment.  A specific date and time will be arranged with the resident, and residents are asked to be packed up and ready to go at their assigned moving time.  Temporary housing students will not be given the option to "pass" on a permanent assignment. However, they will be given priority for a room change after all temporary housing students are moved to permanent assignments and before we open up room changes to the entire campus.

- Residents and hosts will both receive a credit for the time that they are associated with temporary housing. For more information about the amount of adjustment you will receive, please refer to your temporary housing welcome letter.

- If you are interested in having a piece of furniture removed from your room (such as an extra desk), please fill out a maintenance request.  Be sure to mention that you are a temporary housing resident or host.   Excess furniture and box fans for host rooms in Donner will automatically be removed within a few days after the temporary residents moves.

- Temporary housing residents and their hosts have access to additional storage space in both Morewood E-tower and Donner House.  Please see your RA or Housefellow for access to these spaces.

- Housing and Dining Services is also offering extra box fans to residents of rooms with temporary residents. If you did not have an opportunity to request an additional box fan at one of the meetings, please reply to this e-mail with your name and room number.
