Dear Morewood Gardens Resident,

Since November 2004 we have have in operation on the vending machines in the Morewood Recreation room in B Tower the option to make purchases using CampusXpress on your Carnegie Mellon Card. We have also had installed on three of these machines Vend Mizers, a motion sensor control system that controls the energy usage of the machines during periods when they are not in use.

We know that when the Vend Mizers have put the vending machines "to sleep" and they are approached for use, the machines "wake up" but there is a delay of 15-75 seconds for the card readers to become operational.

I am interested in any feedback you may have regarding your experience with the vending machines in the Morewood Rec room, especially any delays you have experienced in your ability to use your Carnegie Mellon Card to make purchases.

The Vend Mizers, fully installed on all campus vending machines, are projected to save Carnegie Mellon over $10,000 each year in electricity costs. But I am concerned about the customer inconvenience of the delayed usage of the card readers when the machines "wake up". Please respond to this note and let me know if you've had this happen to you and what you thought about the delay or wait.

Thank you.

Regards,

Tim Michael
