Dear Resident,
As you begin to prepare for the close of the fall semester, you will need
to start thinking about protecting the belongings that you will leave
behind in your room during winter break. The most important thing you need
to do to make your room secure is to lock the door. One of the aspects of
maintaining this security is to check the function of the lock to make sure
it is working properly. You should test it as soon as possible to prevent
any delays in your departure for winter break. To test your lock function:
If your door is double dipped, double dip your door again to lock it. Dip
your key into your lock, both lights should appear. Enter your PIN and the
light will turn green. Turn the handle to open the door. Wait a few seconds
for the light to disappear and turn the handle again. Is the handle free
moving? You should not be able to open your door when the green light is not
showing, unless your door is double dipped. If your door is not double dipped
and you can open your door, your door is not locking properly and you need to
submit a maintenance request at http://www.housing.cmu.edu/maint/MR.html to
have it fixed as soon as possible.
If after entering your PIN you receive a solid green light with a blinking
red light, this means the lock batteries will die soon. Please submit a
maintenance request to avoid being locked out of your room. Please check
out http://www.housing.cmu.edu/TESALocks/LockCodes.html to learn about the
lights on your door. This page is extremely helpful in understanding any
problems that you may be experiencing with your door.
As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the
Housing Services Office at x8-2139 or at univhous@andrew.cmu.edu. Best
wishes during your finals and have a wonderful winter break.
Regards,
Tiffany Wilder
