Dear Fairfax Residents:

It has been brought to our attention on at least three separate occasions
that the building fire escapes are inappropriately being used as a means
of egress from the building.

The use of the fire escape steps and ladder for any purpose other than
emergency use in the event of a fire or other catastrophic occurrence
is not only inappropriate but a violation of City and County Fire Code.
This use also creates a potentially hazardous environment for pedestrians
as well as those working in and around the building.

Please be advised and accept as fair warning that any continued use of
the building fire escapes at any time or for any purpose other than as
intended (for EMERGENCY egress ONLY) will be cause for consideration
for removal from the university housing system.

Warm regards,

Louis McCauley
Assistant Director For Facilities
