Dear Cathedral Mansions Resident,

Over the last few years, we have been working to meet the continuing demand
for more main campus housing, especially for first-year students. This
need has been expressed and desired by students, parents, and campus staff
and we are happy our new building, New House, and an additional floor added
to Henderson House will be completed for Fall 2003. Leased facilities have
met our capacity needs for many years, but with the addition of these 300
new spaces on the main campus, we can now began to decrease the number of
leased facilities we currently have.

All the Cathedral Mansions' apartments on the first, second, eighth, and
ninth floors plus all the small efficiencies on floors three through seven
currently rented by Carnegie Mellon Housing Services as part of the campus
housing system are being discussed as spaces that will no longer be leased
for the upcoming academic year.

We know that some of you are very fond of the homes you've made at
Cathedral Mansions. We are sharing this information now so you can
incorporate it into your planning for housing for next year. To assist in
the transition, anyone currently residing in a leased space not being
renewed for next year will have the opportunity to select a comparable
apartment during the special selection phase of room draw. Your class and
room draw number will dictate your priority in special selection and you
will have the option to select another Oakland apartment of the same
accommodation as you currently have. For example, if you currently live in
a two-bedroom apartment for three occupants, you can select another open
two-bedroom apartment for three occupants in the Oakland Community
Apartments: elsewhere in Cathedral Mansions or in Webster, Fairfax, Shady
Oak, London Terrace, or Shirley. More information on special selection
will be disseminated in room draw materials as well as in email alerts.

You may also have an interest in keeping your current apartment by leaving
the campus housing system and renting directly from Cathedral Mansions'
management. If you do, please chat with Mrs. Cox and Mrs. Dauer in
January, this will assist in their planning also.

If for some reason the Cathedral Mansions consolidation plan is suspended
after room draw, as a contingency plan when you sign your housing license
agreement for next year, you will be given an option to indicate your
interest in returning to your current apartment if it becomes available at
a later date. We will definitely keep you informed if anything should
change.

Feel free to contact the housing office if you have any questions about
this announcement at univhous@andrew.cmu.edu.

Sincerely,

Adria S. Greene
