Dear Morewood Residents,

The electrical outage scheduled for today has been postponed until
TOMORROW, SATURDAY AUGUST 24, 2002 TO BEGIN ~5AM AND LAST APPROXIMATELY 12
HOURS.

Yesterday's storms caused other emergency outages that prevented our
Duquesne Light crews from finishing their preparations for our shut down
for today. So we are hopeful that they will be able to finish these
tonight so our Morewood electrical outage can begin early Saturday morning.

I have attached below yesterday's message as a reminder of the continuing
precautions and arrangements that will be in place for Saturday's outage.

Please contact the housing services' office at 8-2139 if you have any
questions.

Regards,

Tim Michael
Director of Housing Services

Dear Morewood Residents,

An electrical outage has been scheduled for Morewood A-D towers beginning
tomorrow, Friday, August 23 at ~7am and lasting until ~8pm. Every effort
will be made to restore full power before dark tomorrow night.

The outage is necessary to put Morewood Gardens and the new residence hall
back on permanent power. Morewood A-D was moved to temp power in May while
electrical transformers were relocated and enlarged. Tomorrow's outage is
contingent on Duquesne Light completing their work tonight. If there are
problems this evening, the MG A-D outage will be pushed back until
Saturday. WE'RE ASSUMING WE WILL HAVE THE OUTAGE TOMORROW.

The Underground will be closed Friday, as will the Cyert Center and the
Morewood computer cluster. Elsewhere in A-D towers, computers and printers
should be shut down before the outage begins to avoid potential damage from
electrical surges as the power goes down and then back up.

The Morewood emergency generator behind C Tower will operate throughout the
outage and run the fire alarm system, emergency lighting in corridors and
stairwells, and the elevators. While all four elevators will run, on
emergency power they will only operate one at a time, i.e. a car that is in
motion must stop and shut down before another car in another tower will
respond to a call.

The A Tower desk will remain open as will key pick up, although the
location may change from the A Tower lounge to outdoors with good weather.
Telephone service will not be affected, although cable TV for Morewood A-D
will be down.

Any Morewood resident in need of a flashlight can pick one up later today
and tomorrow at the Morewood A Tower desk tomorrow.

Morewood Gardens E Tower will not be affected by the outage.

I apologize for this inconvenience. While we would have preferred to have
completed this work prior to fall opening, the schedule for the electrical
redistribution has been dictated by Duquesne Light.

If you have any questions, please contact the housing office at 8-2139.

Thank you.

Tim Michael
Director of Housing Services
