Dear Donner Residents,
Thank you to those of you who attended our "Food for Thoughts" meeting last
week. The discussion and feedback were great! Listed below is a summary
of some of the issues raised and some responses to keep you informed.
Regards,
Thom Thornton
Donner Facility Coordinator
********************************************************
Issue: A work order was submitted to have a desk for A25 and didn't get
processed until Thom ( Facility Coordinator) was contacted.
Response: No work order was found in system. Housing submitted work order
on 9/14, work was completed on 9/17.
Issue: A work order was submitted for a dresser to be removed from room
217. The Dresser was broken and was taken away, but no communication has
been received as to when a replacement will be delivered.
Response: Contacted Facility Services Coordinator, No matching dresser was
in Housing inventory, resident should have been contacted by housing staff.
Housing replaced with similar dresser installed on 9/27.
Issue: The Bathroom Showers are clogging frequently.
Response: Contacted FMS about the frequently clogging shower drains. I was
told that drains are clogging from hair and paper being caught in strainer.
Contacted CPS about cleaning strainers daily. Please avoid taking paper
(soap wrappers, etc.) into the shower.
Issue: The current cleaning solution used in cleaning the bathroom isn't
working. Student would like CPS to used bleach or a stronger cleaning
solution to clean the bathrooms.
Response: CPS uses a degreasing solution on the shower floors to remove
soap scum and grease. They use bleach in the shower stalls also to kill
mold and to bleach out the grout. They use an all purpose cleaner on the
floors in the sink areas. This concern was passed on and will be monitored.
Issue: Please remove Graffiti in the 1st east bathroom stalls. Students
would like to see housing complete this ASAP. They were okay with taking a
stall off-line to rectify this problem.
Response: CPS tried cleaning off graffiti. Housing will schedule a painter
to paint stalls and will notify students with date.
Issue: Lights are out in the "A" East bathroom.
Response: Housing submitted work order on 9/27.
Issue: Trash in the bathrooms is left sitting in receptacles for several
days throughout the week.
Response: CPS removes trash daily in all bathrooms and if that is not being
completed a call should be placed to your Facility coordinator to for
further investigation. CPS supervisors were notified to monitor.
Issue: RAs would like to have toilet paper dispenser keys. This would
allow the RAs to refill the toilet dispensers over the weekend.
Response: Housing will distribute a key to RA's in case a holder runs out
of paper. CPS stocks paper goods daily as needed in all bathrooms.
Issue: Bathroom renovations are a top priority for Donner residents. Is
there a plan to remodel/update the bathrooms?
Response: There are no plans for major bathroom renovations until Donner
undergoes a larger renovation within five years.
Issue: The online maintenance request system needs more categories, and a
sample completed work order would be helpful to new users.
Response: Will pass this suggestion on to Housing's Webmaster.
Issue: Someone from CPS left a note that they were in a students room. The
student like this gesture and would like to see it implemented campus wide.
Response: Housing will discuss this issue with FMS.
Issue: Microfridge rental needs to be overhauled. The Melvin Group was
inadequate in responding to student needs. The residents of 141 contacted
the rental company to find out why their Microfridge wasn't delivered and
are still waiting on a reply. They later found their Microfridge several
doors down out in the hallway.
Response: Housing checked with Microfridge (The Melvin Group) on 9/27.
Microfridge had a different room number listed for the student. This was
the first fall for The Melvin Group, they learned several lessons about
providing service at the beginning of the semester.
Issue: Several students reported their Microfridges were dirty. One
student, in particular, reported a half open beverage in their Microfridge.
Response: The Melvin Group apologizes for this and asks the students to
call them immediately if the refrigerator is dirty.
Issue: There are cockroaches in the hallway, stairwell, student rooms and
bathrooms.
Response: Work orders were submitted and Rentokil treated areas on 9/28.
Issue: Student would like to see more storage hours during opening. The
times were not conducive to the safety of our residents. Many parents had
to leave, leaving students to find help in securing their boxes. Students
depend on parents, other traveling with them to assist in carrying heavier
boxes. Please revise for next year.
Response: We have forwarded this feedback to the Office of Student Life who
manages storage locations and times.
