FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What do I do if I lock myself out of my room or my key is lost or stolen?
A: Lock out procedures vary, depending on your residence. Please follow the instructions as outlined below:

Students residing in residential buildings with electronic locks should visit Housing & Dining Services during business hours and a temporary card key will be issued to you. Your account will be assessed in increments of $5.00 (i.e., $5.00 for second, $10.00 for third, etc) for each temporary key created for you beyond the first replacement issued. Monies collected for lockouts are charged to your student account and are used to support the Safewalk program. It is highly advisable to carry your campus identification card/key at all times. When an ID or permanent card key is lost, the resident must visit the Card Office located in Warner Hall for a replacement ID. Your old ID or card key automatically deactivates when the new one is used. After hours entry requests should be directed to Campus Police at 412-268-2323.

Residents of Cathedral Mansions, Fairfax*, London Terrace, Veronica Apartments, Shady Oak Apartments or Webster* should visit the Housing & Dining Services to sign out a temporary key for 24 hours. The student must return this key to the Housing & Dining Services by 5pm of the next business day. If a student fails to do so, it will be assumed that the student lost his or her original key and a request to change the lock will be placed with the university locksmith. In this case, the responsible student will be billed $60 for the lock change and the students sharing the accommodations must arrange to pick up new keys once the lock change has taken place. Once a lock change order is placed, it cannot be cancelled.

*Residents of Fairfax and Webster will be charged an additional $25 if the electronic entrance key fob is also lost and must be replaced.

After hours entry requests should be directed to Campus Police at 412-268-2323.
