Dear Residents,

The night temperatures are expected to drop to the high 30s and low 40s during this coming weekend. The day temperatures are expected to be in the mid to high 60's during this time. This swing in temperatures will be different from what we have experienced to date this fall semester. The decision to activate the heat in our housing buildings is difficult during
these fall and spring transition periods. The reason for this is that most campus buildings run on a hot or chilled water system commonly referred to as a two pipe system. This system can only operate heating or cooling and not both at one time, with the exception of New House. Roselawn and Woodlawn have individual gas fired boilers or forced air furnaces.

The ten day forecast has this weekend as stated above in this message but Monday it will warm up again.  We will not be turning the heat on in campus housing buildings this first weekend of swing temperatures. To conserve heat, we suggest closing your room windows, turn off any air conditioning units and closing any exterior doors.  We are currently monitoring the weather, if this decision changes we will send out another email.

I wish to thank everyone in advance for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Louis McCauley
Assistant Director for Facilities
