The MEAL PLAN CHANGE PERIOD begins Monday, January 29, at 8:30a, and concludes Wednesday, February 7, at 4:59p. These eight business days are your opportunity to adjust your meal plan to better meet your needs.

Here's how it works:

-Look over your current meal plan. How's your mix of blocks and DineX working for you during these first two weeks?
-Check out your options. You are permitted to change your plan *within* or *above* your current meal plan. For instance:
--If you have an A-level plan, you can only switch to another plan in the green group.
--If you have a B-level plan, you can switch to another blue plan or pay more to get a green plan, and so on...
-Finally, stop by the Housing & Dining office to fill out the quick, simple paperwork and have any questions answered.

You are free to change your meal plan multiple times during the period, but the meal plan on record for you at 5:00p on February 7, will remain your meal plan for the rest of the semester.

MEAL PLAN INFORMATION is available on our website, and a copy of the current Plaid Plan contract is available at http://www.cmu.edu/dining/pdfs/plans/Dining_First_YearContract.pdf. The WEBSITE also features a listing of the menus, Create-A-Block options, hours, and location of each of our dining venues. Updates for our newer locations are being posted, so check it out for the latest specials and news!

Just as a reminder, there are three or four MEAL BLOCK periods each day, as outlined in your dining contract. They are:
Breakfast, Monday-Friday, 3:01a-10:30a. Lunch, Monday-Friday, 10:31a-4:00p.
Dinner, Monday-Sunday, 4:01p-8:00p. Late Night, Monday-Sunday, 8:01p-3:00a.
Brunch, Saturday & Sunday, 8:00a-4:00p.

News from the Nutritionist

Student Heath and Dining Services would like to help you successfully achieve your New Years Resolutions:

Attitude. Start the process of change with a positive and healthy attitude. Make as many of the resolutions “I will” commitments, as opposed to “I will not…”
I will use the salad bar in the UC and pile on dark leafy greens, carrots, peppers and other favorite veggies
I will take the stairs every day
Set realistic goals. When you think about setting goals, make sure that they are within your reach. Be mindful of your finances, schedule, and other personal affairs. Many students forget about these important facts and, as a result, they set unrealistic goals for themselves. Remember that is the small daily decisions that count, such as:
Leaving the table when you are full not stuffed
Add a piece of fruit with lunch daily
Taking a walk instead of snacking to relieve stress
Request a smaller portion at the dining counter or an unsweetened beverage
Seek help. If your resolutions/goals attempt to overcome some difficult behaviors such as smoking, weight loss, drinking too much, drug abuse, etc., get help. There are experts on campus who have knowledge and experience you may need to achieve your goals.

Be Flexible. Keep in mind that setbacks can happen. Don’t become discouraged and give up. Your hard work will pay off!
Lapses are merely a warning that your health habits are slipping
Keep calm and review the events that led up to and took place during the setback
Reward yourself: Acknowledge your achievements. Reaching a goal takes hard work and you should be proud of your efforts.
Pat yourself on the back
Focus on small positive choices you make each day

Good Luck and Happy Eating,

Paula Martin, RD, LDN
