All,
I would like to remind everyone of a problem common to your buildings
during the heating season. The recent warm weather has made it necessary
for you to open windows to cool your room/suite. The weather forecast
is for cold and even freezing temperatures which will require the heat
to be used again.
The problem arises when the heat is turned on but windows remain in an
open
position. The heating units located under the windows have a copper coil
of pipe with water running through them. Cold air from the outside can
blow over the unit and cause the water to freeze and burst the pipes causing
severe water damage to your room and personal belongings.
Please make sure that when the temperature drops you close all windows.
If
your room is too hot with the heater turned to low, rather than open a
window, please submit a service request
http://www.housing.cmu.edu/maint/MR.html to have it checked.
Your understanding and cooperation are greatly appreciated.
