Dear Resident:
The following message contains important information about campus housing,
dining, and transportation during Thanksgiving Break.
CAMPUS HOUSING
Although the University closes for the Thanksgiving holiday, residents
are NOT required to vacate their living spaces, as all residential buildings
are open. The 5 service desks will also remain open through the holiday
for your convenience and security.
The Housing & Dining office closes at 5 pm, Wednesday, November 22
and reopens at 8:30 am Monday, November 27, 2006. Please direct emergencies
to Campus Security at 412.268.2323.
During this period of low occupancy, residents are reminded to continue
to take the common-sense approach to security and safety. Do not allow
strangers or tailgaters into the buildings, verify that doors are locked
at all times, and contact Campus Security if you are concerned for any
reason. Campus Security can be reached at 412.268.2323.
CAMPUS DINING HOURS
You may access the campus dining venue hours for Thanksgiving Break at
http://www.cmu.edu/dining/locations/hours-thanksgiving.html
SHUTTLE & ESCORT SERVICES
There will be no Oakland shuttle service, and no nighttime Escort service
on Thursday, November 23th, or Friday, November 24th, in observance of
the Thanksgiving holiday. Oakland shuttle service will resume on Saturday,
November 25th, at 6:45am. Nighttime Escort service will resume on Saturday,
November 25th, at 6:30pm.
TRAVEL BY CAR
If you are traveling by car over the upcoming holiday, please keep in
mind that this is one of the most heavily traveled American holidays.
So expect significantly higher than normal volumes of traffic on both
interstate highways and secondary roads. Also, local and state law enforcement
agencies will be out in force nationwide, strictly enforcing speed limits
and looking for drunk drivers. Most state police agencies work mandatory
extra overtime hours over Thanksgiving, funded by grants from the U.S.
DOT and NHTSA. If you are going to drink and drive this Thanksgiving holiday,
please pick someone as a "designated driver" or better yet,
tell your host(s) you're "staying for the night."
Information regarding winter break will be forwarded shortly.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you an enjoyable and safe
Thanksgiving holiday.
Sincerely,
Housing & Dining Services
