Dear Residents,
Many residents have begun to contact Housing and Dining Services regarding
canceling their housing contract for spring semester. This email is to
clarify cancellation ability.
** GENERAL CANCELLATION REQUESTS **
The Housing License Agreement is a TWO SEMESTER contract that is billed
bi-annually. Requests to cancel a housing contract for spring semester
will
be granted only if the resident is:
1) Graduating
2) Withdrawing
3) Studying Abroad*
4) Working a Co-op*
5) Taking a Leave of Absence
5) an Exchange Student enrolled for the fall semester only
6) Getting Married (a copy of marriage license or certificate should
accompany the request)
* Students participating in CMU affiliated abroad and co-op programs should
also complete a Housing Application to be considered for housing upon
their
return.
To cancel your contract for one of the above listed reasons:
1) Complete a HOUSING CANCELLATION REQUEST FORM by 12/20/06 at the Housing
&Dining Office.
2) Deactivate your card key for 12/20/06 or make arrangements to have
your
hard key returned by 12 p.m. on 12/20/06. Any key access not
deactivated/returned will be subject to a lock change fee of up to $100.
3) Provide verification of your change in enrollment status (such as a
copy
of your study abroad acceptance letter, a copy of your leave/withdrawal
paperwork, etc).
** CANCELLATION REQUESTS TO MOVE TO GREEK HOUSING ** Any resident seeking
Greek housing for the spring semester will need to contact their
organization regarding cancellation ability. (All cancellations to move
to
Greek organizations will be in accordance with the Greek Housing Lease.
The
lease stipulates that a cancellation will only be granted if the member
will
replace a current Greek resident that is moving out of the organization's
house because they are graduating, withdrawing, studying abroad, working
a
co-op, taking a leave of absence, or getting
married.)
** CANCELLATION REQUESTS FOR OTHER REASONS ** Requests for cancellation
of
the Housing License Agreement for spring semester for reasons other than
stipulated above will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. These requests
are typically denied.
Please feel free to contact Housing & Dining Services by phone 412-268-2139
or via email (plaid@andrew.cmu.edu) if you would like to discuss your
cancellation request.
Sincerely,
Lisa Dippold and Tina Hanlon
