Subject: Residential Computing Consultants are Here to Help YOU!
The Residential Computing Consultant program is now available for the
Fall 2006 semester!
Residential Computing Consultants (RCCs) provide in-room computing
help to students living in CMU housing. A Residential Computing
Consultant is on duty Monday through Thursday from 6:00 p.m. through
9:00 p.m. The RCCs can help you resolve networking, software
configuration, and security issues (virus/spyware/operating system
patches).
This year, the RCCs are offering a new service: a bandwidth
best-practices checkup for your Windows or Macintosh computer! An RCC
will secure your computer according to the guidelines published by
the Information Security Office, check for programs that typically
lots of bandwidth, and help configure your computer to work
efficiently while using less bandwidth. We don't guarantee that the
bandwidth checkup will keep you from using up your bandwidth quota,
but we guarantee it will help!
Students living in CMU housing can contact an RCC via phone, e-mail,
voicemail, or through a referral from the Computing Services Help
Center. If you request RCC service, an RCC will call you to schedule
an appointment. You must be in your room to schedule and receive an
RCC visit. If an RCC cannot solve the problem on the first visit, he
will either schedule an appointment for the next day or refer your
problem to the Help Center for further support.
To contact the RCC:
Phone: 412-268-3854
Email: rcc-help@andrew.cmu.edu
When requesting an RCC visit, please include the following
information in your request:
1. Your name
2. Your room number
3. A phone number where you can be reached.
4. A brief description of the problem, including the full text of
any error messages.
5. The hours between 6 and 9pm M - Th when you will be available
for the RCC to contact you.
